Well, I'm at 14,500 words, give or take one or two. I'm at work very early again today (12 hour day yesterday), cleaned stalls this morning, tons of work to do. Gah.

I'm struggling with the time issue for nano this year. I type fairly quickly, and am STILL having issues with word count. Oh well, suck it up, I suppose.

I wrote with my laptop screen down last night (Kent was watching the football game with some friends) ... it made for some interesting typos and run on sentences, let me tell you. I'll post more later. For now, it's back to work!

  • 13:10:57: is perturbed that her dryer door keeps popping open while it's running.
  • 15:14:41: is not happy with Mr Postman for dropping 4 of her thank you cards in the wet outside, but happy that nice ladies found brought them to her.
  • 17:02:02: has learned that the USPS "can't" reimburse you for the postage on mail their carriers carelessly destroy by dropping in the wet street.
  • 20:32:47: is staring into space with eyeballs as glazed as a Krispy Kreme doughnut.
  • 22:04:53: Uhh... why is someone running a leaf blower at 9pm?

It's seven o'clock.

I feel like it's... eleven.

And I want to go to bed.

However, I also want to sleep all night so I'm going to try to hold out two more hours.

I still can't get over the insanity of the USPS. Two ladies knocked on our door and gave us back 4 of the 8 the envelopes I put out to mail this morning, saying they found them on the street. And it's been raining. They were dirty and wet and really wrinkled. Like thanks mister postman.

We needed to buy some more stamps anyway so we went to the PO and apparently they "can't" give us our money back for the four stamps that are wasted now because the mail was ruined. So the postmaster took four stamps out of her own purse for us. They made it sound like it was such a sacrifice. Seriously. I do not understand the logic behind this. It's not my fault that the postman was careless with my mail and wrecked it. *siiiiiigh*

So, anyway.

It took me 26 minutes to write that little bit.

G I think this one will have to be God and His mighty grace. I don't know where I would be in the last year, if it wouldn't for Him. Its so nice to know that someone knows what is going on in this crazy world! Not to mention, its nice to pour your woe's into His listening ears.;)

H Health, and that my family has been blessed with good health this year. You don't realize just what a blessing it is to be healthy until you aren't.

I Impressionist. I need to get back to the museum of art, since they have some lovely Impressionist works. A well done piece of art makes me happy.;)

Nano Weekend Two

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 6:56 AM
My lack of internet really cramps my style on the weekends. Unfortunately, since the hubs is paying for rent out of his check , it would be coming out of mine if we HAD internet... and considering my horse found it necessary to have a $150 emergency visit from the vet this weekend... not going to happen this month. Alas.

Our quote for the weekend comes from the Nano pep talk e-mail. I laughed out oud at this one, becaues I've considered doing just this this year.
"When I'm not happy with how things are going, turn off the screen and keep typing. Don't turn it back on until the crisis is over." -- Gail Carson Levine

12824 / 50000

So I've determined three things this weekend:
1) Having a new husband isn't conducive to writing a lot on my novel. He does sweet things like wanting to roast marshmallows together, and grill me steak on the grill. Also, he somehow thinks that because I was traveling all week that I owe HIM the quality time, and not my laptop. (He's already claiming to have made allowances for my four-legged children). ;)
2) After the rash of shootings this week, I've decided that we SHOULD ban people from buying guns. No one should be able to own one. Instead, let's issue permits for swords. Hand to hand combat has GOT to be a little more difficult than pulling the trigger on a death stick, right? Think of the lives we'll save people. I'll put this on my platform for president just behind the Nemesis League.
3)I've gotten to the point where I'm just writing what comes into my head for the novel. I'm rather liking it, because I've come up with some ...creative... ends to sentences. That's what editing is for, right? Take this excerpt that I'm going to post below. Things were rolling along nicely, and then I fumbled the last sentence. But rather than get all huffy about it, I wrote the first thing that popped into my head, and voila!

“Otter can’t be touched while he’s eating. Lucy here tends to stock up in the mornings. If it’s just her hind feet, don’t worry. If it’s her fronts though, you’ll need to let someone know. Isa isn’t our horse yet, she’s just here on trial, so be extra careful that she doesn’t touch noses with any of the other horses, or that you don’t share brushes or buckets between her and any other horse.”
Sara’s head was whirling. At this point Isa could either be the gray in the stall that they’d just marched passed OR the petite blood bay mare in the stall across the way.
“Rochester.” Marlee didn’t say anything more, and Sara glanced in the stall to see the dark bay horse she’d seen in the indoor arena. The same pale girl was untacking the large bay horse in the cross ties in his stall.
Sara offered a small smile and a wave, which the girl met with an indifferent look before turning to take the large bay horse’s saddle pad off.
“…each day, as well as scrubbing the waterers too. Are you listening, Miss…” The apparent lack of remembering Sara’s last name had no ill effect on Marlee’s reprimanding tone.
“Harper?” Sara asked, in form of a question.
Marlee raised an eyebrow.
“I mean yes sir. – Ma’am!” Sara corrected herself loudly, wishing she could slap her own forehead. She thought she heard a muffled giggle from the stall behind her, but Marlee’s indignant huff had taken over the world.

I was the one that accidentally wrote 'yes sir', but I thought it'd be funny if she actually said it. And the taking over the world bit? Eh... couldnt' think of anything better, and I had roughly 2 seconds before my husband was going to lock me in the house. And that folks, is the joy of NaNo.

Ahhh bliss. Now I'm to work for a loooong day.
Have a good one!

Switching to Symbicort?

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 10:23 AM
Hey guys,

I have a pulmonologist appointment next week and I'm thinking of bringing up the idea of Symbicort.  I'm currently on Seretide 250/50 (Advair in the US) and have been on it pretty much since it came on the market.  Overall, it totally rocks my socks.  The reason I'm considering switching is because Symbicort is supposed to be faster acting and because it's supposedly safer to take larger doses of it if need be.  With Seretide, if I'm going through a rough patch breathing-wise, there's not much I can do other than hit up the Ventolin all the time.  Which I don't like doing.  Increasing my Seretide dose doesn't seem to have much in the way of immediate effects since it takes longer to kick in.  By the time it does anything, the rough patch is generally over.  With Symbicort, as I understand it, I'd be able to increase my dose on the days when I need it more, and not have to be on high doses of meds all the time.  Does that make any sense?  Anyone else made the switch?

I am nervous tho because overall my asthma is under amazing control most of the time, and I don't want to take the risk of possibly messing that up and then being miserable until I switch back...

Ideas?  Comments?  Anyone?

Thanks.

In the 14th century, Dante Alighieri gave the world a glimpse into Hell. But, like medieval Florence and everything around it, Hell has changed, and unlike Earth not necessarily for the better. However even across the span of centuries some things remain steadfast – the despair is tantamount, the torture ironic, pity is scarce, reprieve impossible – Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

This is a literature and live-action panfandom RPG that takes character torture to a whole new level.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to comment to this entry or contact the mods at either madestatic@gmail.com or morbidly.gwenny@gmail.com.
